The Petersham Hotel Review
The Petersham is an upmarket hotel in a Victorian Country house in Richmond, Surrey. This beautiful hotel overlooks the River Thames and it’s stunning picturesque views are incredibly appealing to visitors looking to embrace the beauty of leafy green Surrey.
Upon arrival I was highly impressed by the breathtaking Victorian architecture and character of the hotel.
The hotel was designed by architect John Giles in 1863. Giles also designed the recently renovated Langham Hotel in Portland Place, London’s first ‘grand hotel’. His distinctive style is stunning, I truly admire beautiful architecture.
Bedroom & View
The bedroom we stayed in was cosy and certainly full of character. Stepping out onto the balcony we were greeted by the stunning views of the Richmond meadows and The River Thames.
The balcony design was beautiful with quirky iron furnishings, stepping out onto it gave me the chance to capture the stunning views of the leafy green Richmond meadows.
The bathroom was incredibly clean and modern in terms of appearance. The room itself had an intimate and authentically British feel to it providing a very homely atmosphere.
The Interior
The interiors in The Petersham are absolutely exquisite. The grand Portland Stone staircase is the most notable feature of the interior, reported to be the tallest unsupported stone staircase in the country.
The historic paintings on the ceiling were executed by Ferdinando Galli (1816-97) an Italian renaissance artist were hauntingly captivating.
You absorb the Historic atmosphere as soon as you step in to The Petersham, you start to imagine the people in the hotel in 1863.
The Terrace Suite had been set up for an intimate wedding dinner which really was ever so beautiful as you can see from photos 6 and 7 above. So beautiful and homely! Perfect for any wedding dinner.
Fine Dining
The food was absolutely out of this world at The Petersham Restaurant. Walking in to the beautiful dining room I was incredibly impressed by the grand yet warming atmosphere of the restaurant. The tables were elegantly laid out & diners looked happy and relaxed.
We were greeted so warmly by the restaurant staff and provided with a delicious glass of smooth champagne which was The Petersham’s own brand of champagne.
We dined from the Al la Carte menu. For starters I had the Cured Smoked Salmon which was accompanied by with avruga caviar, buckwheat blini and formage blanc.
For the main the Grilled Whole Dover Sole was a must try. It came with ratte potatoes, capers and brown butter sauce which was so moorish and succulent.
One of the highlights was watching the maître d fillet the Dover Sole in front of us, incredible to watch and the performance was immaculate.
My partner had the Duo of Brechin Beef which melted in your mouth, cooked to perfection.
We were kindly provided with a velvety smooth red wine to enjoy with our meal, incredibly tasty and created in The Petersham’s vineyard.
The Chocolate Delice was the dessert choice for both myself and my partner accompanied with honeycomb and vanilla mousse. A taste sensation especially teamed with a Grand Marnier 🙂
The food was just exquisite! British food cooked to perfection.
Below you can see some images of The Petersham Restaurant in the day showing the stunning views of the Richmond meadows. Perfect at lunchtime or for an afternoon tea!
