Since childhood she had walked the Devon rivers with her father looking for flowers and the nests of birds, passing some rocks and trees as old friends, seeing a Spirit everywhere, gentle in thought to all her eyes beheld. Henry Williamson
Devon holds a special place in my heart, growing up we regularly travelled as a family and to Cornwall also. A Road Trip was a must with my husband and my father.
Kentisbury Grange recently opened their brand new Cottage Suites, the most luxurious rooms at the manor nestled away in the tranquil green surroundings.
With stunning vaulted ceilings and bespoke interiors by local interior designer Karen Gray, these brand new suites are comprised of beautiful, stone cottages and are absolutely ideal for a longer stay in North Devon -Kentisbury Grange
Our home from home cottage was extremely spacious with beautiful high vaulted ceilings, it reminded me of a church ceiling in terms of conceptual design. Karen Gray added calmness to the room design and the pendant lighting lit up the suite beautifully.
Upon arrival we were kindly greeted by a bottle of Michael Caines Blanc de Blanc champagne & homemade biscuits made by the pastry chef. The kind-hearted General Manager also came to greet us making us feel at home 🙂
Whilst sipping on velvety champagne we spent time admiring our charming Cottage Suite. The marriage of light along with modern decor created a contemporary twist to the historic Grade II listed building, perfectly harmonised.
Can we take a moment to appreciate the free-standing Victorian bathtub please? Bathtub of dreams!
We then headed down in for our gastronomical feast at Michael Caine’s The Coach House.

I am delighted to bring my cuisine to North Devon -Chef Michael Caines MBE
Michelin Star Chef Michael Caines MBE has brought his delightful classic cuisine to The Coach House, the restaurant is run by Head Chef James Mason who won three AA Rosettes and Gold for Restaurant of the Year.
The restaurant provides a kitchen window view allowing diners to see the talented chefs at work.
We had the pleasure of reviewing the Six Course Tasting Menu & Wine Pairing experience personalised to suit our taste, a wonderful touch to amend the menu.
For starters we had the John Dory with Aubergine caviar, sauce vierge and parmesan teamed with a 2015 Chablis French dry but fruity white wine.
Our second course was the Veal Sweetbread Ravioli with braised gem lettuce, morels, herb puree & sherry sauce enjoyed with the 2016 Portillo Pinot Noir an Argentinian wine with flavours of raspberry & vanilla.
Our pre-main was the Cornish Cod with chorizo foam, saffron potatoes, lemon puree teamed with a light & crisp wine, Grande des Rocs Picpoul de Pinet from the Languedoc-Roussillon area in France.
Our main dish was the moorish Exmoor Fillet of Beef with Braised Ox Tounge, watercress puree, wild mushrooms, red wine sauce along with the 2013 Cadet du Chateau la Claymore, Lussac-Saint-Emilion, France, a deep ruby red vintage.
We then sampled the Passion Fruit Sorbet, Exotic fruit salad, and coconut foam teamed with our favourite dessert wine the Banyuls Rimage 2014 vintage velvety dessert wine with cherry, blueberry and blackcurrant aromas.
We finalised our meal with the superb Dark Chocolate Mousse with confit orange sorbet enjoyed with the 2014 Banyuls Rimage, a magnificent vintage dessert wine!
The Coach House offers a rustic fine dining experience, a intimate way to enjoy wholesome cuisine.
For the ultimate foodie experience the Six Course Tasting Menu & Wine Pairing is recommended to get an honest feel of what The Coach House has to offer.

On our second night we enjoyed Room Service selecting dishes from the à la carte menu.
