Fireflies for Lanterns by Sasmitha Dellawa

Fireflies For Lanterns means to have humble beginnings. It embodies the spirit of starting where you can, with what you have. It is the spirit of ambition, a moment of inspiration. That is, using fireflies to light your path forward when you don’t have a lantern, a philosophy which was integral to the creation of the brand itself -Sasmitha Dellawa

Calgary Based London Fashion Week Designer Sasmitha Dellawa recently launched her own brand Fireflies For Lanterns which truly embodies femininity and delicate beauty, each item of clothing is unique.

As a brand we embrace fashion with a conscience, we believe in sustainability and slow fashion. Each of our pieces are hand cut and sewn in limited quantities in a studio style garment, by an experienced team of pattern makers and seamstresses who take pride in their craft, as well as their craftsmanship. For us, ethical truly is the new black.

Blair Floral Dress

The first dress showcased is a V-line vibrant floral dress with ruffled sleeves with gorgeous detailing. Wearing The Blair Floral Dress brought joy to my face and particularly love the yellow and colourful floral details.

A playful viscose dress ideal for Summertime adventures and walks in the park, perfect teamed with a pair of little red ankle boots. This dress truly resembles happiness, freedom and positivity!

Ella Dress Black Botanicals

This playful beautiful dark floral dress is polished and refined with cold-shoulder accents contrasting the dark botanical print. A perfect pick for a garden party during the day or dressed up with heels for an evening occasion with flowers surrounding your feet 🙂

The delicate florals really appeal and the elegant cut of the dress makes the Ella Dress a pleasure to wear, the ribbons on the shoulders add such a feminine touch to the style.

Suki Dress -Pink Blossoms

A dress with inspired by the dramatic sleeves of a kimono which fall away effortlessly, and sweet florals as an ode to the romance of the South of France.

The dress combines elegance and a touch of drama, the perfect cocktail for understated elegance for the daytime. The viscose dress is perfect for living in all spring and summer and the sleeves add such a magical touch to the dress.

My makeup look was created using Charlotte Tilbury products in particular the Flawless Hollywood Filter. I blowdried my hair inspired by the Royal to be, Meghan Markle using Lee Stafford hair products.

Sasmitha Dellawa Q&A

Q1/What inspires you personally as a designer?

People and places. That may sound obvious but through each design I try to capture the feeling of a place — in this collection, Provence, and the romance and adventure associated with the region. Or I’m inspired by a girl who embodies that ideal and I design to dress her, because at the end of the day, Provence, like Paris and London (or anywhere really) is a state of mind — and the way you dress!

Q2/ Where do you see the future of Fireflies For Lanterns?

Ideally we’d like to see the brand known on a larger, international platform and expanding into other areas such as jewellery. I’m definitely looking forward to returning to LFW with this brand and hopefully that will be the first step of many.

Q3/ Describe your brand in a sentence?

The poster girl for my brand would be wearing a beautiful white gown, climbing a tree barefoot, elegant and wild. And that’s really what inspired this line.

Q3/ If you could design a dress for SheHearts what would it look like and why?

I’ve noticed Laura, you like a lot of lace and your whole brand is very feminine and polished so I imagine a blush, Chantilly lace, tea length, evening dress, corseted, sweetheart neckline bodice, cinched at the waist, and a fitted skirt draped in the Greek style. I just think the blush would compliment your complexion beautifully, and the silhouette would look lovely on you!

What do you think of the collection showcased by Fireflies for Lanterns?  Which is your favourite dress from the three showcased?

As always I would love to hear your thoughts 🙂

Thank you for reading!
